The Clanmore curriculum draws mainly from the work of Maria Montessori and is enriched by the works of other fine educators like Romalda Spalding, Audrey Sillick and Diane Gossen. Reference is made to the Ontario provincial curriculum guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education where these are seen to be beneficial and meaningful for our children.

Intellectual Development
Our extensive curriculum gives the young intellectual explorers an opportunity for purposeful activity, at the same time exercising their reasoning and imaginative minds. Following their interests, the children discover many relationships between the different areas of the curriculum. Subjects include language, mathematics, geometry, cosmic studies (including prehistory, history, geography, science, biology), French, music, art and physical education.

Social development
At the elementary level, the classrooms provide both a sense of society and independence. Children build on the foundation already established in the Casa Community.

A unique aspect of our elementary level is the time allotted to studying the rapid social development of this age group. Guidance is given to defining and supporting our community beliefs and satisfying the individual’s needs. The framework for the social curriculum is based on Diane Gossen’s Restitution Theory.
